The Heavy-Duty Oil Standard Is Changing In January, What It Means For Your Fleet, Your Costs, And Your Equipment

If your trucks have been running the same heavy-duty diesel engine oil since roughly 2017, whether you manage a hundred-truck fleet, run a small operation of a few units, or own the one truck you drive yourself, that oil is about to be replaced by something new, because the American Petroleum Institute is rolling out a fresh engine oil category called PC-12 that takes effect at the start of January 2027, and everybody who buys oil, specs it for a fleet, or just has it poured in at a shop needs to understand what is changing before it shows up at the next service interval. This is not a marketing refresh or a new label on the same jug. It is a genuine category change, the kind the industry only goes through about once a decade. The last one landed in 2016. Before that, 2006.
