Thousands join warning strike across six German seaports

Thousands of port workers have joined a 24-hour warning strike across six major German seaports as a wage dispute between trade union ver. di and port employers continues. The industrial action covers Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Bremen, Wilhelmshaven, Emden and Brake, following ver. di’s call for workers to increase pressure on employers during ongoing collective bargaining negotiations. In Hamburg alone, around 2,100 employees participated in the strike, according to ver.

CMA CGM has announced an update to its Panama Canal Transit Surcharge for cargo moving from the Far East to several markets in Latin America and the Caribbean. The updated surcharge will apply from 26 August 2026 . For US territories and Colombia, the effective date will be 6 September 2026 . Surcharge set at US$250 per TEU CMA CGM will apply a Panama Canal Transit Surcharge of US$250 per TEU . The charge applies to all cargo originating in the Far East and moving via the Panama Canal.
