Port of Riga to test resilient maritime communications under new partnership

The Port of Riga is set to become a testing environment for resilient maritime communication technologies following a new partnership between port technical services provider LVR Flote and connectivity technology company HARDMODE. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Techritory Forum in Riga on October 23, 2026, establishing a framework for developing and testing secure communication solutions designed to support critical port operations under both normal and disrupted conditions. The cooperation will focus on technologies capable of maintaining connectivity between vessels, sensors, vehicles, drones and port infrastructure, including situations where conventional commercial communication networks become unavailable. Under the agreement, the Port of Riga will serve as a real-world testing environment, allowing the partners to assess the performance of different communication technologies during actual port operations. The companies also intend to pursue joint research and development initiatives and explore opportunities to deploy successful solutions at other European ports.
