Maersk updates intermodal fuel fees in Italy

Maersk will revise its Intermodal Fuel Fee percentages for inland transport services in Italy. For truck movements, the carrier will apply an Export Fuel Surcharge and Import Fuel Surcharge of 16%. For RCO movements, the Export Fuel Surcharge and Import Fuel Surcharge will be 8%. The revised charges will apply from the Price Calculation Date of 1 September 2026 for non-FMC shipments. For FMC shipments, the new percentages will apply from the Price Calculation Date of 24 September 2026.

Drewry index edges lower on decline in trans-Pacific rates

The Drewry World Container Index (WCI), a widely followed benchmark for global container freight rates, fell 1% this week to $4,473 per forty-foot container. The decline was driven by lower spot rates on both the trans-Pacific and Asia-Europe trade routes, although resilient demand and ongoing capacity management by carriers continue to support the market. On benchmark trans-Pacific lanes, spot rates from Shanghai to New York decreased 2% to $9,333 per forty-foot container. Rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles, however, remained unchanged at $6,818. Drewry’s Container Capacity Insight reported that carriers have announced four blank sailings for the coming week, down from seven in the current week.

SC Ports strengthens access to South America for shippers

South Carolina Ports has expanded its connectivity with South America, offering six weekly services between Charleston and the region. The latest development follows the addition of Charleston to CMA CGM’s AMERXL service. The fixed-day weekly service connects Southeast US shippers with key ports in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. AMERXL expands refrigerated cargo access The AMERXL service provides importers with additional refrigerated container capacity from major seafood, produce and flower-producing regions. Meanwhile, US exporters gain greater access to South American markets for protein and other food products.
