White House modifies trade actions on Canadian goods

In Presidential Proclamations published on September 8, 2026, the White House announced updated trade measures regarding Canadian imports. The actions modify existing Section 338 tariff lists and establish complete import bans on select product categories. Scope modifications Effective September 15, 2026, Annex I updates modify which Canadian products face Section 338 duties: Added items : Paper products, steel, aluminum, base metals, furniture, cheese substitutes, hides, leather, golf carts, and motorboats. Exempted items : Specific types of cement, salt, bedding, fishing rods, and tissues are removed from tariff lists. Import bans Beginning September 29, 2026, direct imports of specific Canadian items will be prohibited: Vehicles : Motorcycles and mopeds exceeding 800 cc.
