UK government to explore coordinated maritime nuclear strategy

The UK government will bring together departments, regulators and industry representatives to explore the development of a coordinated maritime nuclear strategy. The commitment followed discussions with the Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization (NEMO) during the International Atomic Energy Agency’s General Conference in Vienna. Government departments to examine maritime nuclear Michael Shanks, Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, agreed to convene relevant government bodies and industry representatives to discuss the way forward. The process is expected to involve the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Department for Transport, alongside regulators and NEMO. However, the UK has not yet adopted a maritime nuclear strategy.
