Shockletz, daughter of 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, eyes family repeat

Shockletz, a daughter of 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, is being considered for a tilt at the Melbourne Cup, 7NEWS Sport reports. Connections have flagged the race as a target if they can secure her entry. ‘‘It was always on our radar if we could get her in,’’ the report quoted. The brief update frames a potential bid to replicate the family’s past success in Australia’s greatest staying race. No further details about the timing, preparations or who made the comment were provided in the report.

Why this matters

If Shockletz secures a start in the Melbourne Cup, her connections plan to pursue the race, creating the practical possibility of a family repeat of Shocking’s 2009 victory.
