Rotterdam World Gateway secures financing for €500 million expansion

Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) has secured a new financing package to support the final phase of its €500 million container terminal expansion at Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam. The financing comprises senior and junior debt tranches, with Société Générale acting as financial advisor and sole private placement agent for the transaction. According to Clifford Chance, which advised RWG on the deal, the package represents the terminal operator’s largest financing to date and includes a senior US private placement alongside a private credit subordinated tranche. The funding will support RWG’s ongoing expansion, including the development of its fourth and final deep-sea berth. Capacity to reach 5 million TEU RWG currently has an annual handling capacity of approximately 2.
