Port of Duisburg gains funding for smart logistics

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced funding awards for CellPort Network for Smart Logistics involving collaboration between the University of Duisburg-Essen, Duisburg Business and Innovation GmbH and Duisburg Port AG. The CellPort project will transform the Port of Duisburg into a real-world laboratory for the logistics of tomorrow, creating an innovation and transfer ecosystem developed in collaboration between DBI, the university and startport GmbH. The initiative brings together scientific findings, technological developments and concrete logistics sector requirements, with a focus on applications and business models at the intersection of smart logistics, 5G and 6G connectivity and digitalisation. The project aims to reduce costs and delivery times, increase handling capacities and ensure operational continuity during periods of low water on the Rhine. Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Mona Neubaur described the two projects as setting the course for structural change through future technologies, highlighting CellPort’s role in creating optimal conditions for technology-oriented startups at the port.
