Major investments transform Gothenburg RoRo terminal

Gothenburg RoRo Terminal has undergone extensive development over the past three years, with a series of infrastructure upgrades delivering a modernised, more efficient and sustainable operation serving frequent sailings to key freight hubs in the UK and Central Europe. Cargo volumes handled over the quay increased five percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reflecting the positive impact of the investment programme. The terminal handles a broad mix of cargo including food, forest products, steel, electronics and automotive and engineering components. Its development coincides with growing intra-European shipping demand driven by geopolitical uncertainty, tariff disputes and global supply chain disruptions, prompting companies to seek regional, predictable transport solutions with frequent connections to European freight hubs. RoRo and short sea shipping are also increasingly valued as relief for congested inland transport corridors.
