NIMO and Belfast Harbour join Port Innovators Network

The PIER has welcomed Northern Ireland Maritime and Offshore and Belfast Harbour as the newest members of the Port Innovators Network, a worldwide association aimed at boosting innovation adoption across the global ports ecosystem. The membership strengthens PIN’s reach into the Northern Ireland maritime and offshore sector and connects Belfast Harbour’s digital transformation programme with international port innovation peers. NIMO brings together members from industry, government and academia to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions across maritime and offshore sectors in Northern Ireland, with particular strengths in autonomous systems, offshore renewables, innovative port technologies and technology transfer from aerospace into the marine sector. Belfast Harbour serves as Northern Ireland’s principal maritime gateway, handling 70 percent of the region’s seaborne trade and 25 percent of seaborne trade for the island of Ireland, supporting GBP 8. 8 billion in total Gross Value Added to the regional economy.

SAAM Hunabku to become Guatemala’s first IMO Tier III tugboat

SAAM Towage will soon add the SAAM Hunabku to its fleet, marking the company’s 16th vessel delivered by Sanmar Shipyards and the first IMO Tier III certified tugboat to operate in Guatemala. The vessel will be based at Puerto Quetzal as part of SAAM Towage’s fleet renewal programme in the Americas. IMO Tier III classification certifies compliance with the highest international standards for nitrogen oxide emissions control, enabling more environmentally friendly port operations. The SAAM Hunabku is a Boğaçay class vessel based on Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design, measuring 24. 4 metres in length with a beam of 12 metres.

SC Ports appoints new Chief Operating Officer

South Carolina Ports has announced the appointment of Patrick McCrory as Chief Operating Officer, effective October 5, with the unanimous approval of the SC Ports Board of Directors. McCrory will lead the port’s more than 500-person operations team, responsible for safely and efficiently running container terminals, RoRo and breakbulk operations, intermodal facilities and two rail-served inland ports alongside maritime and logistics partners. McCrory brings decades of experience spanning freight rail, intermodal terminals, marine terminal operations, supply chain management, workforce development and major infrastructure project delivery. He most recently served as President and CEO of Palmetto Railways, where he led the Class III short line railroad as part of the Southeastern rail network, overseeing major operational expansions and managing a US$ 450 million capital development portfolio. His prior experience includes senior terminal management roles with CSX Intermodal Terminals in Ohio, Georgia and North Carolina, where he helped lead the launch of the US$ 175 million Northwest Ohio Transshipment Hub, as well as multiple management positions with APM Terminals across the
