Maersk will revise its Origin Handling Charge (OHC) and Destination Handling Charge (DHC) for containers moving to and from Brazil. The updated tariffs will take effect on 1 November 2026 and remain applicable until further notice. Maersk attributed the adjustment to higher port-related and operational costs. Readers Speak: Reliability determines the value of faster shipping

Shorter transit times can justify higher freight rates, but only when speed is backed by reliability or a clear operational need, according to the latest Readers Speak poll. Container News asked readers whether shorter transit times are worth higher freight rates. The strongest response was “only if reliable,” while limiting the premium to urgent cargo also attracted considerable support. Relatively few readers rejected paying more for shorter transit times altogether. The results suggest that speed has commercial value, but readers are reluctant to treat faster transportation as sufficient justification for higher freight costs on its own.
