Port Saint John advances new investments

Port Saint John has announced CA$ 360 million in federal and provincial funding for channel improvements, marking the next chapter in the port’s ongoing modernisation and growth programme. The investment will deepen, widen and improve the alignment of key harbour channels to strengthen marine access and improve operational efficiency and reliability across the gateway. The announcement builds on a sustained transformation of Port Saint John through the West Side Modernisation Project, which expanded berth, container handling and rail capabilities to bring annual on-dock container capacity above 800,000 TEUs. Private-sector partners have also invested more than CA$ 750 million in equipment and rail upgrades over the past decade, strengthening Saint John’s position as a Canadian trade gateway with modern terminals, greater capacity and stronger transportation connections. The channel improvements are designed to make the existing infrastructure work more effectively together, improving marine access for vessels and enhancing the overall resilience of the gateway and its transportation networks.
