DP World commissions hybrid RTG cranes at Manila South Harbour

Strategic partners DP World and Asian Terminals have commissioned six state-of-the-art hybrid Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes at Manila South Harbour, manufactured by ZPMC. The new cranes bring the terminal’s RTG fleet to 29 units and are capable of stacking six containers high, enhancing cargo handling capacity and supporting faster, safer truck turnaround. The hybrid RTGs use technology that reduces fuel consumption and emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered equipment, and are equipped with advanced safety features including automatic gantry steering, emergency stop systems, anti-sway technology, truck detection and chassis positioning. The cranes are also designed for future conversion to fully electric operations, aligning with the partners’ broader drive toward lower-emission port operations. The commissioning builds on a sustained modernisation programme at Manila South Harbour.
