Container spot freight rates on the transpacific and Asia-Europe trades completely diverged this week, with a late peak season demand surge prompting freight prices to both east and west US coasts to spike. This week’s World Container Index (WCI) from Drewry saw its Shanghai-New York leg rise 3% week on week, to end at $9,587 per 40ft, almost triple this time last year’s $3,677. Logistics provider accuses Alabama carrier of raiding its workforce, stealing trade secrets

Imperative Logistics is accusing two former employees and Alabama Motor Express of orchestrating a scheme to steal confidential customer, pricing and operational information and use it to divert business. Imperative Logistics LLC and subsidiary DTH Expeditors LLC filed a lawsuit on Monday in the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia against Alabama Motor Express, doing business as AMX Expedited, and former Imperative employees Joseph Cochran and Mary Evette Jones. The complaint seeks injunctive relief, compensatory and exemplary damages, attorneys’ fees and other costs over what Imperative describes as a coordinated effort to misappropriate trade secrets, violate employee restrictive covenants and interfere with the logistics provider’s customer relationships.

Container shipping’s deteriorating schedule reliability has effectively taken 2. 3m teu of vessel capacity out of the market. According to Sea-Intelligence’s latest Global Liner Performance data, schedule reliability fell to 56. 4% in July, its lowest level since February 2025 and the weakest performance since the current alliance structure was introduced.
