Kuehne+Nagel takes logistics lead for Amazon data center expansion

Global logistics powerhouse Kuehne+Nagel has signed a long-term deal cementing its existing collaboration with Amazon through which it provides supply chain services for the cloud computing giant’s massive buildout of data centers and other infrastructure needs. Switzerland-based Kuehne+Nagel ( SWX: KNIN ) said Monday that the contract covers logistics services for any part of Amazon’s business, but the primary focus is on supporting Amazon Web Services. K+N has been working with Amazon for at least two years, moving large amounts of servers and other cargo by air for data center construction and operations. Under the contract, K+N will expand management of Amazon’s logistics and supply chain services beyond air to ocean, road and contract logistics, transporting equipment for the entire infrastructure lifecycle — from maintenance to upgrades and expansion projects around the world. K+N executives have previously said that their contract logistics contracts typically last for seven to 10 years.
