KR grants AiP to HD HHI’s new 50,000-cbm LPG carrier design

Korean Register (KR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to a new 50,000-cbm LPG carrier developed with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI). The design introduces a new capacity option between the established 45,000-cbm and 60,000-cbm LPG carrier classes. KR presented the approval to HD HHI at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok on 16 September. New size for mid-size LPG trades HD HHI developed the concept and basic design, while KR reviewed the vessel against international standards and gas carrier regulations. The vessel features independent Type-A tanks for the storage and transportation of LPG.
