Gulf conflict upsets networks – and fleet size – of biggest feeder operators

The US-Iran conflict and subsequent closure of the Hormuz Straits have upended the networks, and fleet deployment strategies, of the world’s three largest common feeder operators – and seen AD Ports’ Global Feeder Services significantly close the gap on the market leaders. According to new analysis from Alphaliner, the Middle East conflict, now in its eighth month, has forced the two largest operators, X-Press Feeders and DP Worldm to reduce their ... Parcel shipping costs approach record high as extra charges stack up

Sharp increases in rates and extra fees have continued into the fourth quarter, putting 2026 on track to be the most expensive year on record for parcel shipping as carriers strive to maximize revenue, according to the latest market snapshot from investment bank TD Cowen and AFS Logistics. Analysts say the onslaught of surcharges is spurring businesses to diversify their vendor pool and helping alternative carriers gain market share from the large legacy carriers. Fuel surcharges are a major cost driver this year for businesses that purchase parcel transportation. Diesel fuel prices have soared since the start of the Iran war in February, which slowed crude oil and refined fuel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, but repetitive carrier changes to the formula that sets fuel surcharges have more to do with elevated rates than the actual rise in fuel prices, the companies said in the benchmark report. Carriers have frequently reindexed surcharge tables since 2021 to not only capture additional revenue as fuel prices rise, but keep fuel surcharges high even as actual fuel prices fall, according to the TD Cowen/AFS Freight Index released on Tuesday.

He said ferry operator Panstar Line’s test voyage, with the 2,758 teu Panstar Acro, helped pave the way for the commercial viability of Arctic shipping. The ship had arrived back in Busan on Sunday, after the 40-day round-trip to Felixstowe and Rotterdam. Although cargo ... Guinea-Bissau denies it has approved controversial vaccine trial in newborns

Health minister says government ‘did not authorize’ Danish-led hepatitis B trial in babies backed by RFK Jr Guinea-Bissau has not approved the controversial hepatitis B study in newborns that would be funded by the US government and private partners, the African country’s minister of health said on Tuesday. The study, which would not investigate the safety or effectiveness of vaccines but would instead track “nonspecific” health outcomes like overall mortality or neurodevelopmental conditions, has been championed by Robert F Kennedy Jr, secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and a longtime anti-vaccine activist.
