Maersk introduces emergency UAE surcharge and raises Benelux fuel fees

Maersk has announced new emergency cost measures affecting shipments to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and inland transportation across the Benelux region . The carrier will introduce a US$500 per container Emergency Operational Cost Recovery surcharge (OCR) for contract bookings to the UAE. It is also applying temporary fuel-related adjustments to inland transportation in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. US$500 emergency surcharge for UAE shipments Maersk’s new OCR will apply to shipments from all regions worldwide, excluding Far East Asia, to the UAE . The surcharge is US$500 per container and applies to dry, reefer and special containers.

Hapag-Lloyd appoints Anders Boenaes as new COO

Hapag-Lloyd has appointed Anders Boenaes as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 1 October 2026 . The company’s Supervisory Board has also extended the contract of Dheeraj Bhatia , Chief Terminal & Infrastructure Officer (CTIO), until 31 December 2029 . Dheeraj Bhatia Boenaes moves into COO role Boenaes currently serves as Senior Managing Director Network at Hapag-Lloyd. He joined the German carrier in 2020 and is responsible for its global liner network, container fleet and global operations. Before joining Hapag-Lloyd, Boenaes spent more than two decades at Maersk.
