Brussels retreats on supply-chain rules – but logistics won’t escape the compliance machine

For years, European companies have been preparing for a new era of supply-chain regulation. Consultants were hired, sustainability departments expanded and suppliers received increasingly detailed questionnaires. Freight forwarders, carriers and warehouse operators discovered that moving cargo was no longer enough. They also needed to explain how it was moved, by whom, under which conditions and, increasingly, with what environmental impact. Then Brussels changed direction.
