ABS and JB Energy sign MOU to advance wind development in Brazil

ABS and JB Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on strategic studies for the Aura Sul Wind Project, a floating offshore wind pilot under consideration in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The collaboration addresses two principal areas: emissions reduction for the Port of Rio Grande and a preliminary decommissioning strategy for JB Energy’s Raijin Float platform, a concrete-based semi-submersible floating wind foundation. Studies on port emissions reduction will examine electrification, renewable energy integration, low-carbon logistics, clean fuel opportunities and related infrastructure at the Port of Rio Grande. The decommissioning strategy work will cover removal concepts, towing and transport, dismantling, port logistics, environmental and safety considerations, and recycling and reuse opportunities for the Raijin Float concrete structure. Rob Langford, ABS Vice President for Global Offshore Markets, described the collaboration as advancing safe, sustainable and economically viable offshore wind development in Brazil, noting that floating offshore wind projects depend on strong regional infrastructure and clear lifecycle planning from the outset.
