ABB receives go-ahead for third Washington State Ferries hybrid vessel

ABB has received a Notice to Proceed from Washington State Ferries (WSF) to supply and integrate the power and propulsion system for a third hybrid-electric newbuild ferry. The authorization extends ABB’s involvement in the fleet modernization programme from two vessels to three. It follows the company’s earlier selection as propulsion systems supplier, under an agreement covering two initial vessels and an option for a third. The third ferry will feature ABB’s Onboard DC Grid and Power and Energy Management System (PEMS). These technologies are designed to improve power distribution, integrate energy storage and manage available power sources according to operating conditions.

NORDEN more than doubles Q3 profit to US$54 million

Danish shipping company NORDEN reported a net profit of US$54 million for the third quarter of 2026, more than double the US$26 million recorded in the corresponding period last year, supported by stronger market conditions across its Dry Cargo and Tankers businesses. The company’s quarterly net profit increased by approximately 108% year-on-year, while operating cash flow reached US$150 million, compared with US$96 million in the third quarter of 2025. Following the results, NORDEN raised its full-year net profit guidance to US$200–250 million, up from its previous forecast of US$180–230 million. The updated outlook includes US$79 million in vessel sales gains, unchanged from the previous quarter. During 2026, NORDEN continued adjusting its fleet portfolio in response to market developments, adding vessels to its core fleet in the Handysize and multipurpose (MPP) segments.
