Metalkol completes technical acceptance of Damen CSD500

Metalkol has successfully completed the technical inspection and acceptance of a customised Cutter Suction Dredger 500 at Damen’s dredging yard in the Netherlands, with the vessel approved for delivery following extensive inspections and testing. The CSD500 will be transported to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for deployment in a mining operation. The standard stock CSD500 was configured to meet the specific requirements of the project through a range of proven Damen options, including anchor booms for swing anchor handling, a spud carriage pontoon to increase swing width, extended dredging depth capability to minus 16 metres, a vacuum relief valve, a discharge valve and a comprehensive package of dredging instrumentation. Following acceptance, the vessel is being prepared for transport to Africa in accordance with Damen’s modular dredger concept, with the CSD500 disassembled into modules optimised for efficient transport by road and water, followed by on-site assembly at the mining location.
