A record Arctic season and a new state forecasting service signal that China’s Northern Sea Route ambitions are shifting from opportunistic voyages to standing infrastructure. China’s Arctic shipping push has crossed a threshold this summer. At least six Chinese operators are running container and bulk services along the Northern Sea Route, with initial container capacity alone reaching roughly 20,000 TEU, plus more than 25 bulk carriers linking Chinese ports to Russia’s Baltic and Arctic terminals.
